A profile photo of a smiling Japanese-Australian girl with dark brown hair above the shoulders, and wearing a green blouse patterned with plants and rabbits.

I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to Land, Sea and Community. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and future, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

My name is Hana Kinoshita Thomson or Hana Underthetree (Kinoshita 木下 means “under the tree” in Japanese).

I have a Bachelor of Design with Distinction (UNSW ADA), a Bachelor of Psychology with First Class Honours (UNSW), and am currently an in-house designer of Children's & YA books at Allen & Unwin. I'm also open to exciting illustration and design opportunities as a freelancer, so if you'd like to work with me, please don't hesitate to reach out.

I always aim to create vibrant and engaging work that communicates a joyful, relatable or informative message.

I'm particularly passionate about mental health awareness, the Japanese language and culture, picture books, and of course, rabbits. I adore colour and usually create my work digitally on my iPad, dabble with ink, gouache paints, and coloured pencils, as well as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

If you’d like, follow me on Instagram, connect with me on LinkedIn or check out my music on YouTube.

I hope my illustrations, designs, and music make your eyes and ears happy, and thank you for stopping by.
